Okra German Shepherd Dog Young Female for sale in Memphis, Tennessee

Okra's story
Dogs join our rescue from all different ways. Typically we go to the shelter when we have an available foster, find a dog and adopt. Okras situation was a different one, we had no available fosters but really wanted to help a dog as much as we could. So we reached out to animal control and told them that we would love to take a dog out for the day and see if we can find a foster. We asked for a dog from the euthanasia list, we wanted a good dog who simply needed and deserved chance. Of the almost 250 dogs they had at their facility, they picked Okra. She was our girl for the day. We were determined to give her the best day we could, and pray we found someone to foster.
When we went to pick her up, we asked why she had not been adopted. They told us her story, one that began a few weeks before when she came to the shelter as a stray. Sadly for Okra, she developed an upper respiratory infection shortly after arriving to the shelter. She was put in isolation and started on antibiotics. This meant she was not in a spot where adopters could see her, yet her time kept ticking and her 72 hours were up before she really had a chance. Someone in the isolation clinic kept their eyes on Okra and kept her safe until she was well and could get her chance on the adoption floor. In another unlucky twist, there was no available kennel on the adoption floor. At that time, Okra was placed on the euthanasia list. That was a Thursday, the same day we asked them about taking a dog out for the day. Maybe it was meant to be?
So we took Okra with us to our adoption event and for a day at the park. It would have been understandable if she was hyper, she had been in a kennel for 3 weeks. We would have completely understood if she was scared, after all it can be overwhelming to go with strangers to a new place with lots of people and unknowns dogs. But what we found was a confident, sweet, happy girl who already knew how to sit. One who went directly from the shelter to the park and loved every moment of it. She met kids and babies, dogs of all shapes and sizes, even had to endure a few obnoxious puppies pestering her and she was never anything but patient and sweet. We thought we would be giving a dog a good day out, but we didnt expect to fall in love with her.
We are so thankful to have found a foster who could allow us to bring her into our rescue. Okra currently lives with other dogs and children. She is happy to go for a car ride, is great on leash and is house trained. She's not entirely sure what she'll be when she grows up, other than 100% muttastic, but she sure would love to be someone's side kick, a family pet, and seems to be particularly great with kids. Okra's adoption fee will cover the adoption cost, her pro-heart injection (6 month Heart worm preventative injection), all up to date shots, microchip and deworming.
