Colby Jack Russell Terrier Senior Male in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

My story
Greetings! My name is Colby Jack Cheese (my foster mom thinks she’s funny), or Colby for short. I’m pretty sure I’m mostly Dachshund with Jack Russell Terrier ears and coat. I’m 14#, and probably around 13 or so years old. SPOILER ALERT! I am probably 85% blind. I think I have some cataracts in my eyes, but that doesn’t bother me. I just need to make sure whoever gives me a forever home, that they blind dog proof their home. My foster mom will help you with that and how to train me to learn left, right, stop. She says those are the most important things a blind dog needs to know. Clapping helps me too! I walk pretty well on a leash. Speaking of leashes! Foster Mom has a leash that says “BLIND DOG” that she said my new owners could have. Her last dog was blind for almost half her life so she got pretty good at #blinddoglife.I LOVE squeaky toys. I’m very quick to learn where the squeaker is, but I don’t chew them out, I just make them squeak until they stop making noise. I don’t know why! I love chewing on a natural bully stick. Foster Mom has been able to put her hand on the stick while it’s in my mouth and I don’t growl or anything, I try to play tug of war with it.I did great overnight and slept in my crate. Foster Mom has one of those black wire, see thru crates, and a regular sleeping pillow fits nicely in there. I’m not super sure what “Colby Kennel” means yet, but I don’t mind having you help me go in there. Provided I get a snacky snack or two for being a good boy.I am also housetrained. I was able to signal Foster Mom every time I needed to go potty. It helps that the first thing she did when she brought me home was take me right to the patio door and show me what “go outside” means. I have a hard time finding the door because I can’t see so that’s where the clapping comes in handy. Yell my name nice and loud and clap and I’ll come a running right to you! I come in hot! Please do not leave me on the couch or bed unattended. I do not know what the “edge of the bed” means. I shouldn’t be around stairs either. Foster Mom doesn’t mind me being on the couch. In fact, once I’m on her lap with a blanket, I’m content and don’t move.I think I’d be good in a home where I’m the only dog, or in a home with another senior dog who doesn’t expect too much from me. I stayed with a family that had a cat and I became friends with him. I probably wouldn’t be good in a home with small children. Older humans would be better so they can understand my blind dog needs.Overall I’m a spunky little old man. I can run faster than you’d think! Just please make sure that when throwing a toy in the house for me that I don’t run into any walls. I do like to walk in-between tight spaces. Foster Mom has a coffee table with plants on it in front of the patio door, which has vertical blinds. I LOVE walking in-between the table and blinds. Foster Mom got some video of it! I also have a cute little waddle which I think comes from the Dachshund in me.
